    Hi Guys

I'm growing orange sun peppers for this first time this year and I was just wondering are you supposed to pinch out the side shoots on pepper plants the same way you do with tomatoes?

All my books seem to include info on when to sow and pot out and then when to harvest and miss any information on growing in-between

if some one could give me information on whats the best thing to do with them that would be great

    thank you

I have grown various peppers over the years and have six sweet yellow plants in the greenhouse now. The only thing that I do is feed them once a week with tomato feed once the first flowers appear and try to keep a humid atmosphere (I grow mine with the cucumbers as they both appear to like the same humidity)

      thank you :-)

yeh it gets quite humid in my greenhouse and the plants seem very happy

I have one book that says you should pinch out the top when they reach 30cm high but that doesn't seem that tall

With Peppers you want the to branch. If they don't branch (by themselves) pinch out the tip, to make them branch, but this is somewhat of a last resort as it will set the plant back 2 weeks (forcing its buds to break and make sideshoots). Its been pretty rare for me, over the years, to need to pinch Peppers out - I suspect some varieties are more prone to growing straight-up, and most of them bush-up naturally.

What messes with pepper harvest is letting ripe fruit remain on the bush - which is why red peppers are so expensive I believe, the plant stops producing more when the fruits turn color other than green.
