    Police cut-outs stationed in town

The idea is to help residents recognise their neighbourhood beat officer

Life-size cardboard cut-outs of Taunton police officers are being stationed in parts of the town to help residents recognise their local "bobby".
The five models, each costing £100, are of the beat managers from the Safer Stronger Neighbourhood policing team. They will be placed in various locations, including supermarkets, schools and doctors' surgeries. Sergeant Andy Murphy said the idea was to let people know that their local officers were available to help. "It's a case of recognition," he said. "If people in our neighbourhoods know the name and face of their beat manager it makes them more familiar and therefore approachable."

    footnote:
Avon and Somerset Police have insisted the five models, are "absolutely not" intended as a cheap alternative to real crimefighters.

I think the cardboard cutout has been shrunk in the wash.:hehe: They have been doing this type of thing for years. Have you ever seen the little drive ups by the side of duel carriage ways where a police car can sit and observe the traffic? Well apparentley they have cardboard cutouts of police cars on some of these. We observed them a few years ago on the way to Norfolk (and loads of speed cameras). :grn: 02

    Pity.
would not hurt them to have the real ones being allowed to do a real job, but I guess our Govenment will hve many reasons why they think carboard cutouts do the job better.

Guess I'd better not show this to Himself.

Most of them have cardboard for brains as well, my Father-In-Laws garage was just broken into recently, so my wife rang them to report the crime - but they need to speak to my Father In Law as well but he's hard of hearing, so they arrange a time when both wife and F-I-L can be present on the end of the phone - 9:30 this morning. Well they did ring at 9:50 but to our home phone - theres only me home - wife is waiting with F-I-L in their flat! Guess this will turn into a saga just to get a crime number. Grrr!
