We have just got back from a trip to Singapore - talk about an exotic paradise!Really wonderful place that's worthy of a trip in its own right rather than just a stop over as many will do.

    The botanical gardens are amazing!

We put together a blog just on the ginger garden in the botanic gardens.

And another just on the bromeliad section in the Singapore botanic gardens

Then there is the Gardens by the Bay - a massive new garden on reclaimed land home to the Supertrees. (more photos of the supertrees here)

    And also large glasshouses.

Just a selection of the arid section so far....

We took hundreds of photos, so gradually sorting them out. The Gardens by the bay is still fairly new so many of the outside areas are still settling in - but they have moved large trees and grown plants on to get it a start.

Or if you don't like 'long haul flights' Madaira is also well worth a visit.

        Cheers, Tony.

Yes after the warm weather its a bit of a shock, although we tend to have a break at this time of year.

As Tony says Madeira is a good Garden destination and well worth a visit, we have been a few times.

          Good photos, Gaz :dbgrtmb:

It's certainly a nice place to visit. We've been there a number of times and the gardens are always fascinating. We were visiting some friends there a couple of months ago and there was a wedding in the Botanical Gardens. What a wonderful setting for it.

Was this walkway in flower when you were there?

Yes, it was in the orchid garden. Isn't it fantastic :rolleyespink:

It does rain a lot in Singapore but we always have our fold up umbrellas with us :blue thumb:. The umbrella fits in the pocket of my trousers and is used not only to keep the rain off but to keep the baking hot sun off as well.

My faithful umbrella has been with me for decades and has been to about sixty countries .

Happy memories! Fabulous place, and if you've had enough of gardens you can eat your way round all those fantastic restaurants.

Ah I love Singapore, having worked there about 15 years ago. Lovely gardens, lovely weather, food and people. Of all the places I've been it felt like home from home, they even drive on the correct side of the road :)

Gaz, please don't show any more, I will start drooling!!!!
We went there in '85 a long time ago, A week in Bangkok, a week in Penang and a week in Singapore and have wanted to go back ever since.
The Botanical Gardens was the first time that I saw a Strongylodon and obviously the plant and name was etched on my mind ever after.
The gardens must look a lot different now as the whole city would ,no Metro, no bridge to Sentosa then.
Satay every day mmmmmmm!:dbgrtmb: :dbgrtmb: :dbgrtmb:
