Bit bored, confined indoors mostly with coldy laryngitis which is doing the rounds of le village.

I've got a wheelbarrow, seen better days and was probably manfacturered as utility gardenware in WWII. Got all mod cons though like natural drainage. It's not the smartest (I like its rustic look, but OH refuses to allow it near the nice bits of the garden). It is a bit knackered and I'm wondering what to do with it - hate to chuck things away. Could I grow something it it, preferably edible? I was thinking of chateney carrots? It will have to be in a not so sunny corner somewhere. Any ideas?

I've also got a Belfast sink that weighs a ton and is huge. For the past few years I've grown some courgettes and squash in there, but it really doesn't fit in with my naturalistic style garden. Can it be camouflaged in any way? Got some oragano/thyme around the base but it still sticks out like a sore thumb. Any ideas?

If you grew Carrots in it you could move it around to get the sun while OH's not looking :snork:

Could I get a decent enough crop of chatenays to warrant the bother? Never grown carrots here before of any variety as they are cheap as chips to buy (except the chatenays). Is there anything else that doesn't need soil depth that I could grow/eat?

@Lolimac - I'm not sure herbs would be appropriate as dastardly OH will ensure the said barrow is kept from view and therefore in a shadyish spot. I do have a herb collection near the back door anyway.

@Lolimac =forgot to ask, have you tried that sink conversion? I can't really envision it myself from that description.

Stick some mint in it. That grows everywhere and you can use it in cooking AND drinks :)

How about something like this to "hide" the basin?

                BasinAsPlanter.jpg

You could then plant what ever you like in it or perhaps even make a mini Zen garden in it.
