Hi all, I have recently found patches of what only can be described as a slimy residue sitting on top of my lawn. Can anyone tell me what has caused this and how I can remove it?

    Hi and wecome!

Black slime moulds don't usually do any lasting harm and the best way to disperse it is to get rid of the offending dead material it lives on. A good scarifying with a spring tyne rake is the best weapon to remove old thath. You can also use a dilute solution of Armillatox on really bad or stubborn patches but rake it first.

    Hi Frogesque,
The slime in question is green in colour and I wonder if it might have come from the spores of a round shaped fungus I found growing in the grass??

If its green then I would betcha that it is from moss. I have moss in parts of my path, and they have formed what looks like a green slimy patchs. Never noticed it before this year - so unsure why its formed or indeed what it is.

If its this, then rake it off - and then see what the cause of the moss is ? too little light, ? soil compacted.

If its green slime then it is algae.
