I have been composting for many years but never met this problem before. Can anyone help please?

One of my bins has recently been invaded at the top and just under the lid by very, very thin white or yellowish lengths of something that look like minute white worms. They started very tiny, but are slowly growing in length, and they move about very slowly.

Does anyone know what they are, and whether they are harmful or not, and if so, what is the best way to get rid of them and stop them re-appearing please?

    Thank you for any advice.

    Barry
