Hi Sal, the problem with that is that slow growing aquatic plants don't by nature take up a lot nutrients and therefore don't really help to keep your water clear. So with a small pond you might have to use quick growing oxygenaters which will take out the nutrients effectively and then, when they start to crowd the pond, take the majority out and leave just a small piece to regenerate, taking out more nutrients as it does.:snork:

hmmm, you have a good point Armandii. The water was ok until the local family of ducks started using it as their swimming pool :wub2:

If duck are using it for swimming that means they will eat every plant you will put in there , at this point try to use snails , rain water and duck weeds to feed the duck :blue thumb:

Rusty? I'm only 38, I don't think I've seized up just yet :heehee: There are so many ducks out here that it'd be impossible to eradicate them all. Our fish pond is netted to keep them out.

the "pond" is half of a barrel, cut longways. it used to be bigger and made with a pond liner, but that split somehow (ducks?) I'll get a pic tomorrow.

Well, the ducks obviously get into the pond and add to the "content". Their excrement is high in nutrients and cause an explosion in algae. So you need a plan to keep them out!!:coffee:

hubby suspected as much. now we've got another headache! it was bad enough stopping them from getting in the fish pond, they kept ripping up the net! we ended up criss crossing bamboo canes in the net to stop them getting in. looked awful but worked. now we have a new net on and as yet they havent tried to get in.

The flag irises used to be in the wildlife pond when it was bigger, but hubby used them to fill in the gap left after replacing the liner with a large barrel cut in half.
