I've noticed slugs have been crawling over my cacti, and leaving a trail - even the very spiny ones
This small one has had a hole bored right into it :mad: so I've sprinked slug pellets in there - they won't affect the birds etc because none go in there.

You wouldn't think a new concrete floored greenhouse where it's dry and warm would be a place slugs would like !

I have a back porch with concrete floor but often find slugs in there, I think often I bring them in hidden in the drainage holes in pots, it worth a quick look just after dark as they come out then.

In the evenings and early mornings (mainly evenings) the slugs come on our patio and all over the lawn. Mrs Shiney does dusk slug patrol most evenings at this time of year.

The ones I used are 'environmentally friendly' ones. I don't know exactly what is meant by that, but they are inside the greenhouse so can't do any damage to the 'environment'.

I have them everywhere too but I don't go hunting for them, they don't seem to do too much damage, but I am not going to allow them to munch holes in my cacti !

            Quite right too. :blue thumb:

With us they seem to go for all the new plants that Mrs Shiney propagates and she has used a few thousand litres of compost this year propagating them. So slug patrol is a must.

I go on snail patrol as they seem to love runner beans. I've found them 6ft up the bean poles :rolleyespink:. Apart from chewing the young plants they also seem to like eating the beans (never seen that before). Where they chew into the flesh of the beans the red ants then invade the beans. I wonder whether the ants are commissioning the snails to chew away the outer skin for them.

I quite agree, you can't let all your hard work be destroyed.

In my garden they seem to enjoy Pansy flowers but they don't seem to do much damage to my hostas surprisingly, or anything else come to think of it.
They can keep away from my cacti.
I haven't grown beans this year - too much faff preparing them for cooking.

Hi @Drahcir The slug pellets are called Solabiol. The container is several years old because I don't use many.
They contain ferric phosphate which is a naturally ocurring substance. The slugs eat it and then bury themselves in the ground and die.

I don't know if any of the ones I sprinkled around my greenhouse have been eaten, the floor is concrete and I can't see any dead slugs so I don't know how effective they are.

My greenhouse is new, but at the sides of my garage there are two perspex shelters and I've sprinkled some in there from time to time. I haven't seen much slug damage to the plants in there.
I never use them in the open ground.

I like your avatar, I enjoy weather like that (but not all the time)

I think you can only buy Ferric phosphate slug pellets now, Metaldehyde ones have been banned.
