My kids got some seeds for free from an M&S purchase, which they planted in the garden. Our lettuce is now quite big and I've picked some to eat and had to evict a couple of tiny slugs and a large snail from the leaves. I tend to rinse lettuce under cold water before eating, but is this enough to make sure it's safe after slimy things have been crawling over it? Thanks in advance.

Yes, wash it off and it’ll be fine. Obviously the notion that slimy things have been crawling around is somewhat unappetising, but a decent wash will do the trick

Only lettuce I've grown is the kind that forms hearts.
The slugs get at the outer leaves but you dont use them, just the heart which is usually slug free.
