I've started a new compost bin off while my other one rots down, in my old one I had loads of red worms which obviously are wonderful but in the new one I have a few slugs! Is that okay?

Yes, it's to be expected. Just pick them out if and when they are visible, otherwise deal with them in the garden when you use the compost, as you would any other slug problem. I can't imagine a compost bin or heap without any slugs and snails however undesirable they may be.

Some slugs only eat decaying and rotting down material, so are invaluable in the compost heap. they won't be tempted by your greenery outside the bin.
