Ok, there beginning to get on my nerves now. Tried the pellets the other night as they where out with a vengeance to say the least! eventually i ended up getting the .....(yes, i do feel a tad guilty) ...the salt out to kill the blighters. It worked very wellas i saw the results the next day which was not a pretty sight. Is it true that egg shells work well as they don't like the jagged edges on there tummy's? (the swines)

Oh and please let me know if anyone has ever seen a slug standing erect as i did the other night and i've never seen that before!

That erect slug was just sussing you out! He will be seeking vengeance for the salting - beware the hoards that will attack now.

Ever seen leopard slugs mate? They climb a tree, hang down on slime ropes and entwine around each other.

I think this must have been what I found today. It looked just like the pictures but it was huge! I've never seen such a large slug before, must have been 5" long and that was not extended. It was lurking under a cardboard box . I don't want it breeding in my garden! Pof S, it would have given you the horrors- it scared me and I'm not squeamish.

You can see the tree hanging, slime rope mating of the leopard slugs in intimate moving detail in David Attenborough's recent television series "Life in the Undergrowth"

    Ain't nature wonderful!

So sorry didn't mean to offend!! its actually who has the problem, I'm totally pathetic when it comes to anything like that, i can't even move a bloody spider for gods sake!

By the way, it's raining here today so they will be back with a vengeance after massacre with the salt.

Bet they'll be brining there sisters, brothers, aunts, uncles.............. :(

Reading through the slug posts - most problems seem to be from gardeners living in the western and therefore wetter parts of Britain. It's so dry now in East Anglia that we seldom see any as they like wet ground to glide over. Although you clearly can't dry your soil, the more abrasive stuff that you can put down in the way of grit and chippings the better. Should help and encourage them to go next door where the ground is softer and wetter.
