I've having problems with large birds scoffing any bird food I put out. Magpies, crows and pigeons swoop down as soon as the food is put out, hoover it up and return to the woods .

The crows bully the magpies, the magpies bully the pigeons, in fact the only small bird that will stand its ground is a robin

A 'Gardman' bird haven costs around £20 to £30 - its a cage which lets small birds in and keeps large birds out.

An upside down B&Q 'value' wire hanging basket does the same job for £3 - bargain .

I recently bought a new bird table and stapled a strand of wire around the middle to stop any bird bigger than a Blackbird getting to it.:blue thumb:

Aww - don't they all deserve a bit? :dunno:

Even if the big birds appear to do most of the scoffing, they are messy eaters (at best) and they do have a tendency to drop bits and bobs which the smaller birds hoover up.

I have used a pair of hanging baskets tied together around a bird feeder in my previous abodes - but that was to deter squirrels rather than larger birds.

I have the Guardman type, the crows jump up and swing on it to dislodge seed to the ground.
