Any ideas on what i could use for a formal evergreen hedge to border a small front garden, also need to know what evergreen shrubs will tolerate dry conditions.
    thanks

box always looks nice in a formal setting.
You don't mention how high, or deep you'd like the hedge to be.
What sort of soil do you have? do you have animals you want to keep in (or out!)
If you have children you will need to be aware that some plants have poisonous berries e.g. yew.
Holly and Yew, notwithstanding the poisonous berries are always good for hedging, and both are slow growing which may be a plus if you only want a small hedge.
I hope this has given you a couple of ideas.

As for the dry soil look at the mediterranean shrubs, as they're used to dry conditions

Robbsy, Lavender plants make a nice hedge too, if pruned hard after flowering... also Berberis, Pyracantha, the dwarf types. You can get several low growing var. Alternate with say Curry plant or Artemesia, both silver, hardy, and great contrast, pruned heavily early spring. I got all of them in a low borders and lots of bulbs amongst them for spring flowering.
