I hve a raised bed that i have made for planting some veggies in this year for the first time. It measures 5 foot square and is all ready to go, i have enriched the soil with well rotted manure and it seems to be breaking down well. I want to grow:

Beetroot, beans, peas, lettuce, carrot , spring onions, radish, courgettes, peppers and toms.

I also have 5 pots measuring approx 45cm wide and 45cm deep.

What would do better in the raised bed and what would do better in the pots? Is there any variety of the above that anyone can recommend?

    Thanks in advance.

Look out for varities labelled as 'patio' types, they are more compact being bred specially for containers and smaller beds.

In the pots I'd grow toms, peppers, peas, courgettes and beans because those all need a bit more space. The rest should be fine in your new raised bed (except maybe you shouldn't grow carrots in freshly manured soil - they will fork)

Grow your courgettes up a tripod of canes. They need tieying in every so often, but the fruits are easy to see and it saves valuable space. I should concentrate on quick maturing and 'cut and come again' veggies. Cheers, Tony.
