No, not small spuds but small quantities of spuds. Seed potatoes to be precise.

I stopped doing potatoes a few years back because I got fed up with having to buy a whole bag of seed pots when in reality about a dozen would have suited me admirably. I never had the heart to chuck any away so I'd plant them all. But they're so much hard work and take up such a lot of space.

Well, the other day I spotted a newspaper called Garden News. In it was a special offer for three potato grow bags and 15 seed potatoes, 5 each of 3 types. At £13.98 inclusive of postage I thought it was worth a punt. On the website they're £14.99 plus £4.99 p&p.

Potatoes are Red Duke of York, Charlotte and Vales Emerald.

No idea what they'll be like but I'll keep you posted.

    charlotte are fantastic.
Red duke of york are good too, (but dont need much cooking or go a bit mushy)
Cant coment on the Vales Emerald.

Mixed packs a good idea, some garden centers sell 5 packs now too.

Thanks for that info. I'm familiar with the Charlottes but never heard of the other two. It's what makes gardening interesting, is it not!

Popped into a garden centre yesterday and noticed some 'taster packs' of various varieties - each pack containing 10 seed potaotes. I thought that was a great idea in order to let someone grow a number of different varieties.

We had Vales Emerald last year, cook too much and they go mushy...taste for us was average...but we also had pink fur apples so perhaps taste comparison is not fair.

    Steve...:)
