The photo's a bit confusing - are those red leaves part of the new shrub, or another one behind? Could you post a pic of it side-on, so we can see what kind of shape it is?

My first thought on seeing those shiny little leaves was a pittosporum. But that's very tentative - a having a better of idea of its habit of growth would surely help

The shrub has green leaves with red edges, the small dark leaves belong to a different plant in the background. Sorry if it looks a bit confusing but if I took a side-on shot you would only be able to see the stems. Maybe I should have put it next to something plain.

Thank you @Silver surfer I believe that's the one, it's exactly the same
My cousin lives near the sea not far from here and he has a Coprosma which he leaves out in the winter. He puts it next to a sheltered wall but it seems to pull through every year.

I have two other Coprosmas @Victoria but they are not fully hardy here so I bring them into a shelter for the coldest months.

The Coprosma I planted here died even though I thought I put it somewhere fairly sheltered so winter protection is a good idea.

                Happy gardening!

I have Coprosma Lemon and Lime, it is in a slightly sheltered position it doesn't like temperatures below -5c, mine has suffered damage but has survived -7c.

I have had a red leaf Coprosma outside for a few years now and not had a problem with it. The site is well drained which may have helped

I have mine in pots so they can be easily moved to a sheltered spot for the winter.

I also have this one and put it in a shelter for the winter.

It's good that you can leave it outside. I think it also depends on your location. You live in Carmarthenshire like me but I live in a hilly area and we sometimes get cold air descending from the mountains.
