Smoke alarm went off

Can smoke alarms go off for no obvious reason? Ours went off a couple of hours ago. I checked the whole house and outside and can't see or smell anything. Its foggy out and the smoke detector is near a window that was open. Could that do it?

Its freaked out CL1.1 who is now asleep in my bed because he was too scared to sleep in his own bed, and to be honest its freaked me out a bit.

That's strange, my new one went off for no obvious reason on Tuesday.

 

Ours went off a couple of times in the night a few years ago for no apparent reason and after Mr Kandy checking about it on line came to the conclusion that the battery inside needed replacing even though it runs on mains there is a small battery in the detectors.

When we had the same problem last year both of ours played up at the same time which was most annoying when we needed sleep.Anyway he took one of the units off of the ceiling to check to see if there were any cobwebs etc and noticed a small sticker that said that the unit needed replacing after ten years of use.As at the time the units were twelve years old we decided to replace both units and he got them on line.He also ordered a couple of those Carbon Monoxide detectors at the same time from the same company.

Since replacing the smoke detectors we have had no problem.

Replace the batterys and make sure the batterys make good contact, and get the hoover around it and in it (take the over off) is what i do

Have some one burnt the meat or is there a bonfire near by, being that it's foggy as they can detect the gases of a fire from elsewhere maybe it detected some gasses from the steel works (i think not sure)

 

I've heard that restless spirits can set them off

 

Our smoke alarms were bleeping at random for weeks. We tried resetting and changing batteries, no difference, but eventually we worked out that it was the tiny fungal gnats that we had in the house at the time, by pure chance we saw one flying around one of the alarms and then entering and setting it off. Having eventually got rid of those they were still bleeping so we decided to buy new ones.....no further problems. I think perhaps the gnats had upset the sensors in some way.

 

Gnats and not Ghosts then?

 

We do actually have an annoying ghost in our house too as it happens.
