Arg! Just been out to check on things and repot a few things, and I've lost one little cucumber and very nearly my only courgette to flipping snails. The courgette is down to one 2mm baby leaf. I have moved them for now, but the snail populous is getting a tad out of hand!

Mainly that's because the whole area has been neglected for a long time, so it's been very snail-friendly. Now I've sorted it all out, they may actually get worse as they have far fewer places to hide. I will now start checking round all the pots in the mornings to look for hiding snails, but I'd rather stop them getting there in the first place as by then, of course, it's too late. I've picked a few off just now but there can be many more at night.

There's not a lot of room for things like eggshells, so does copper really work as a deterrant? All of my snail-victim type plants are on things - an old kitchen cupboard, a cable drum, a plastic garden table - so I could put tape around those things, to prevent the snails reaching the plants themselves.

But, I don't want to go out and buy a load of it if it won't actually work!

I've found the copper tape gets easily damaged, you might be better off putting beer traps down.

I highly recommend the nematode biological control someone described it to me as mollusc armageddon and it honestly is! You have to do quite a wide area but it really knocks the population back

I'm thinking this year is the year of the snail.
Cant ever remember seeing so many, they are everywhere, cant walk up the garden after dark without crunching loads of them.
They are crawling up the house walls and across windows.
They are even climbing high into trees.

I'm using pellets, the so called organic ones.
I think we are just having a plague year of snails.
