Just a word of caution,be aware of the amount of snow on the the roof of greenhouses....A couple of years ago when we had heavy snowfall my GH was lovely an cozy with a good 6+ inches on top of it,it then froze and more snow fell...i went in there to potter and heard a crack and looked up to see the roof buckeling under the weight.....through leaving the snow to freeze i couldn't brush it off...thus resulting in having to replace around 16 panes of glass....it could have been alot worse.......So just bare in mind and take care:dbgrtmb:

Good advice there loli. The same thing happened to my sister's conservatory roof a couple of years ago, she got it repaired through her insurance. It's not something I've ever had a problem with but just in case I will go and sweep the snow off mine today.

Thanks for the tip Lolimac -
I went down to the greenhouse early evening last night and it was in darkness - then realised it was all the snow on the roof. With working it's dark when I go to work and when I get home so only see the Greenhouse at weekends. The sweet peas were almost lying flat obviously looking for some light. I will take your advice Lolimac and head out soon to remove it before the next snow fall which is expected around lunchtime. Off now to sort it out.

I took this photo yesterday of my veggie patch, we have a little more snow coming down today:

There was a fox's trail, interesting to see where he's been, having a look at my leeks but even more tracks next door around my neighbours chicken house.

Job done, as about 5" of snow on top! Suppose I'll be doing it later as well, more snow forecast for later too!

Good advice. I religiously cleared the snow off my glasshouse roof 2 winters ago until I had to go away for a couple of days. Lots more snow and "timber" the roof collapsed and glasshouse destroyed. It's the 1 in the photo which ain't there anymore:gaah:

Good advice! I've just done mine and removed about 4" ... Although looks like I will be doing it tomorrow morning again as the snow is covering so quick and settling on my GH roof again! :( :noidea:

I'm wondering about brushing the snow off my greenhouse now, think I'll leave it for the time being though.
I put the hens in the greenhouse a couple of days ago and a bit of snow on the roof probably helps to keep it a bit warmer in there. :chicken:
Also, given my natural clumsiness, if I start sweeping the snow off the greenhouse I'm quite likely to break a pane or two in the process.

I cleaned my GH roof earlier and there is about 2" settled back on it again. We have a total of 6" on our table outside!! Madness

Cracked my roof opening pane yesterday :frown:

It's always the most difficult one to replace that has to be damaged :wallbanging:
