We have a large garden which we can just keep ticking over as we both work full time. As I draw nearer retirement I am looking at 2 beds which need to be re-done. They are both over grown with shrubs that I know as snow berry. little pink flowers followed by mistletoe type berries. Please how do I get rid. Does any one know the proper name for them as I can't find them in any book!

Hello derwent and welcome to GC.

I cannot imagine why you would want to get rid of Symphoricarpos ... you perhaps have the S albus which is white and looks like mistletoe as opposed to S doorenbosii 'Magic Berry' which is pink.

As you have a large garden, I would hope you would keep this lovely shrub ... but, each to their own.

Others will come here and give you their thoughts but in the meantime enjoy the site.

Hi derwent and welcome. I dug mine out. It can get pretty invasive. You get underground runners and then new stems growing from these. I don't see much alternative to digging.

Thanks for your comments. I am with Peter rather than Lady of leisure. This shrub is so invasive it looks (as it is) like neglected scrub land. I had a feeling my answer would be to dig, dig, dig.
I'm sure over time I will have many more questions. Thanks for your help.
