So Who Is Going To Get Romantic Tomorrow?

I'm not. Haven't celebrated it for years and years and am still going through the motions of the flu too at the moment.

Don't get me wrong I can do things for Mr Jane that shows my love and appreciation but why spend money on it or only one day a year the same as everyone else?

I am troubled by in recent years how much valentines day has escalated into something almost on the same plane as Christmas. A good example is I just received an email from Argos and screwfix both trying to associate themselves with the event. Both of which I see as the most unromantic places to go personally.

I think it has it's place (and certainly all around the world there are variations on the theme).

I take the point made that we can show those we love how much they are loved and appreciated at other times (like: Christmas? Birthdays? Mother/Father's Day/Easter ) but for those who like to harness that traditional day of romance and lovers: why not?

As for Screwfix trying to associate themselves with the occasion ... well, with the release of the film 50 shades, it might be that they are being forward thinking

 

I agree that Valentines Day has become a bit over commercialised.

But I think lots of people can take their Other Half for granted.
So this is an opportunity to make them feel appreciated.

I can understand where you are coming from but Mr Jane and I have a special day in the summer (the day we met) that we celebrate and it usually a day when no else is celebrating anything, so it makes it even more special as we don't share it with anyone.

That's enough for us personally.

 

I am not the romantic type, and I wouldn't be drooling over my other half going to the moon and back to please me at Valentine. A tight, long hug is all what I need. It has also to do with the fact that I am not in favour of the commercial side of celebrations, in general. But as far as receiving flowers, presents, dinner invitations etc. most other days...bring them on!
