I changed my phone number (mobile) to stop certain people contacting me. Cost me £25 with vodafone, fair enough.

They gave me a recycled number. Fair enough.

What isnt fair enough is the wrong numbers I've had on it and foreign (arabic) texts I've had on it. One foreigner even called me a slag when I told him he'd got the wrong number!!! :(

When a phone company recycles a number, they should leave it inactive for a long while between owners, so that the previous owner's contacts know that the number is finished with as far as they're concerned.

Vodaphone are a bad bunch. The wife and I have just had a bit of a set to with them over the most appalling case of mis-selling.

    Hmm...

Not as bad as recycled bank account numbers.

A few years ago I opened a new account with Barclays for a couple of months with a sum of money in it while I made up my mind what to do with it.
It "fed" my current account which was always kept at a £100 overnight balance. After a few weeks I closed it.
About a year later, they gave the number to someone else. They must have gone overdrawn, or disappeared as I ended up with a £100 plus charge on my current account. When I queried it they discovered that although they'd given the number to someone else they'd omitted to take my name off!

Still they sorted it out gave me £50 and sent me four bottles of wine for my troubles. They must send out a lot of wine, as it was labelled "Barclays."

I have never changed my mobile number - had the same easy to remember number for the last 12 years lol

Our home number however, we have had for 7 years since we moved here and get several calls everyday for the lady who had the number before us. She must be in debt with every company in the UK by the calls we get ... and the people ringing are very demanding to know who I am !!

    Cheeky buggers lol

I would ring Vodaphone up and tell them the problems your having and get them to change it free of charge for a totally brand new, never used before, number. Tell them if you dont then you are cancelling your contract. Should sort them out!

Next time they call, advise them politely that you have kept a record of all their previous calls, including the fact that you told them already that you don't know the other woman, and will be seeking legal advice with regard to taking action against them for harassment. The wife had a problem along these lines once until I spoke to them, then suddenly the calls stopped.

You don't have to be in that much debt, I am currently having a real set to with one credit card company about charges for going over my limit, until very recently I was getting over 6 calls a day from different numbers all about the same bloody card. Now the OFT is involved they have backed off.

I would just hang up, and demand another number from vodafone.
