    Hi all
I am thinking of instaling a soaker hose system into the veg garden, which is a biggish area to cover!

I like to know the best way of laying the hose out for maintenance at the end of the year! So is best to bury it and how far down or leave it on the surface, and get Tee not the barb Tee but the nut locking Tees to remove the pipes?

I look forward to hearing your thoughts!

    Brian

I have been using this system for about 15 years. Always tweaking and expanding. I use it for all of my hanging pots, my greenhouses, my beds.

I have never used a soaker hose. But I am sure if that is what you're aiming for, it is with good reason. :blue thumb:

I use perforated hoses in my greenhouses and on my veg patch and some flower borders. It sits on the surface. I leave it out all year. I wouldn't bury it if you have a bad memory like me, with the chance of damaging it with a spade or fork. It works well for me, I use a few metal pegs to keep it I place, straight off the roll it tries to coil up again so lay it all out before planting.

I use a good quality pipe the very cheap stuff was dreadful with inconsistent perforations.

I use cheap plastic hoselock connectors. Where it tees off I use a brass tee with adjustable valves, because the pressure needs to be equal on each section. Mine are connected to mains water taps with a timer during the summer, I remove these overwinter as the timers are not frost proof.

@Brian20 I have used soaker hose on raspberry, strawberry and runner bean patches. In all cases I have buried it so the water is delivered at the roots and to reduce evaporation. Soil doesn't block the pipe as the water seeps through the small holes in the pipe and passes into the soil by capillary action.
There are plenty of websites around that allow you to work out what length you need and how long to run for to deliver a certain amount of water.
