Trying to soak up some advice on soap and water (pardon the pun)

I've was told to use soapy water on plants to control diffent things such as fungal disease.

What I want to know is, What type of soap and the concentrate to use. Will it help control bugs especially ants and earwigs. And any other benefits it has. Any links will be helpful.

    Thanks in advance.

All I know is for tomato plantsI used to spray with leftover washing up water and it kept the greenfly off - I use Ecover W/U liquid so it's not chemically 'nasty'.

I think you have to use a special soap for other things. I'll hand over to someone who knows..!!
