    Good afternoon everyone.

Has anyone ever used one of these gadgets for sowing seeds in? If so, are they any good or just another gimmicky waste of money?

Eeee! Thanks p-g! There was one of these left in our barn when we moved in! Didn't know what it was, but didn't chuck it out being a) financially sensible or b) a tight-fisted ole wotsit! Must try it out. Mebbe when the rain stops... If I can get it to work, I'll keep you posted.

I don't understand this. What is the differance between a soil block made with a soil blocker, and a block of soil made by putting compost into a square plastic pot.

The reason they had one here, I suspect, is that they grew melons commercially and growing in blocks saved having to knock every plant out of a pot when they got it into the field to plant out. Must admit I can't see much use for one for sowing for an average garden!

Now talking of melons and blocks, have you seen that someone grows melon fruit in large transparent cubes, which control the shape. The result is melons that not round but perfect cubes. The arguement is that they fit better in a fridge.

Given our overcrowded island - should we all wear square corsets. :D

I'd say rectangular ones - we'd get more of us squeezed in that way....

I've had a look at the link, and can't see the point myself - cell packs would do the job just as well, if not better, without all the sogginess!
