When I dig my soil I'm finding patches of this "fungus?".I've had no joy taking it to the local garden centre for ID. Can anyone help? and do I need to treat it with anything?

I think the word is Mycelium.

As long as things grow ok there is nothing to worry about.

It might even be mushrooms, most fungi are not bad for plants, infact some are positively good.
Ypu would probably need to see the fruiting body, ie. the toadstool, to make a correct ID.

Thanks Pete. The affected soil doesn't seem to support healthy plants for very long, thats why I was thinking I might need to treat it. But yes, now you mention it I did find 2 huge toadstalls in amonst my plants. Jeyes fluid has been suggested. any ideas on that? and how long before I could replant after treating?

Mmmm. Jayes fliud would perhaps wipe out the fungus, but you would need to drench the soil in the area.
If you had a picture of the toadstools there is a chance that one or two members here might be able to ID them.

I'm still erring on the side that its probably a beneficial fungi, rather than anything nasty.
