Hi - I'm sure many of you have used solar lights for the garden - do you have any recommendations?

    Thanks, Nick

I have tried some before and wasnt impressed. I personally wouldnt bother again, but use low voltage mains powered lights in future.

    Hi Nick.

Yes we have used them, but really only to illuminate the path way at night, or beside a special feature in the garden.

Seeing as how they don't put out a great deal of light, I always look for cheap sets.

Ever the one to invest in ecology I bought a solar light for my garden once... and chucked it in the garbage soon afterwards. Solar company never made themselves a worse publicity than with these ridiculous things.

I am HAPPY that at least some of these lamps are good, because I really believe that solar is the way to go,and it hurt me that they were making such a sorry show of themselves. Those really bad gadgets are not a way to "convert" people.

Thanks for this reccomendation, I will keep my eyes open for these.

Yup, that's around the price I used to pay. Will have a look at those. I used to get mine from Makro. Cheers.

Bought some cheapies a year ago and thats how long they lasted! The light was poor and the batteries awful. We ended up having to take them out to charge them!
Bit the bullet and got some from Sainsburys when they were on offer recently and they are great.......so far!

Haven't tried any so far but everyone that I know who has (except Imp :D) says they are useless. But none of them have tried L.E.D. ones :)

They sound a good idea because they emit a lot of light with just a little power. It then just comes down to how efficient the batteries are.

I'm off to Homebase and Wickes today so I'll have alook at them.

Well I have to agree with Intermiplants we brought eight or so of those rock type ones from Wilkinsons at the time they were on offer but I also noticed some spot light ones as well (like the ones Ste has) and thought I would try some of those too, I must say that there are blooming great and do shine things up instead of just a dull glow like the rock type ones.

We were so impressed with the spot lights that we went back to the shop and cleared them out of the lights! After a sunny day mine will last until the morning although one problem that I have noticed is that some of the spots seem to collect a little water in them but this doesn't effect the 'works' of the lights.Hel.xxx.
