My wife and brother applied for power off attorney to look after my mother in laws estate. The solicitor company we used incorrectly completed the documents twice which ended with them not getting joint power off attorney , a delay off several months , lots off time and stress chasing the thing up .
Now we are complaining and hope to get back the £600 fee as well as fair compensation for the above . As I have no experience whatsoever of claiming compensation , what level should I request . I know it's how long is a piece off string question , but should we be requesting £5 or £50,000 ? Anyone any idea off a ballpark figure for this ?

    TIA

A amout you are happy with, but if to high the other party may fight it, which then be more stress IMO

    To cover all expenses

I agree,I would go for costs of fees, any lost earnings, telephone calls, additional visits to their office, petrol, parking, emails, letters sent, etc. etc and see what it amounts to first.

Total this up and then add on compensation for stress related matters, they will negotiate before going back to court, and you never know until you try :dbgrtmb:

Apple Blossom has stated the case well. :blue thumb:

Have they now got joint P of A?
Did mother in law want it to be Property and Finance, Health and Welfare or both?
If so, did she get the correct one?
If not, then there's more to chase the solicitor for!

As from Wednesday the Lasting Power of Attorney has changed to a simpler and cheaper form.
Did the solicitor advise you that it was changing and that if you waited until the 1st of July it would be cheaper?

If the job has now been done properly then you should only need to pay what it should have cost you.
I would be inclined to calculate that at the new rate and not the old rate.
Then, from that, you should deduct all your expenses plus payment for the time you have wasted and a small, but reasonable, amount for upset.
