The trees are beginning to change, and, in particular, the Japanese maples display all their autumn finery

    Sam,

I too have the rhus, but it looks rather sorry for itself this year-I moved it. But the colours are amazing. Can I propagate in the normal way or is there a specific method recommended for them?

Rhus will throw up more suckers than you have room for
Pot them up and you have new plants for free :)

Sam, I must have a deformed one or something, there are no suckers coming out at all.

I will get a pic of it tomorrow, it isn`t unhealthy, it grows relatively slowly each yr and fruits so I don`t know, anyway, I`ll post a pic of it tomorrow and you can get a better look at it.

    Thanks Sam.

Hi, whis4ey. :) Haven't seen you in quite a whle but I imagine you've had a busy summer at the Center.

Beautiful colours and we would love to see it in real time ... remember to keep those drinks for us .....

Did my little red Hawthorn make it through the summer? :)

Beautiful colours Whis4ey, I'm going to show my ignorance now by asking, 'Are Acers and Maples the same family or completely different altogether?' There are so many with such vibrant colours. Which would you say was your all time favorite? 02

Takemore ... acer and maple are of the same family ... the family acerae :)
'Maple' is simply the common name for the Latin 'Acer'
There are many different maples withing the family ... the Japanese ones are my own favourites
LadyofLeisure .... your little hawthorn has progressed brilliantly. I will take a pic and you can then let me know if you want me to dig it up and post it, or if you want me to trim it and leave it for another year in the ground :) (I think I know the answer :D)

    No Chuck,

At some point -not ( I swear to God) by me, it has been pruned into a tree sshape, with two long branches starting at 4ft height, so I can`t bend down a branch for fear of snapping. They are flexible and if the branch length was longer it could be done without damage to the mother plant.

I will have to take some shoot cuttings in spring I think.

They have fruited-I will google and see what I can do with them.
