Some sort of rose, but what sort? The ground elder below will need blitzing, and there is the possibility that this area might end up being gravelled over - could the rose be moved, or would it be better leaving it and putting membrane around its base?

I have not a clue what this one is?

Weigela if I am not mistaken? Is this easy to propagate? Its got some lovely fresh soft wood tips...........

Not a great photo of this one, sorry. I thought maybe something related to an allium? The flower head looks somewhat thistle like when viewed side on. I did notice a nearby garden that had a load of these, so perhaps its a self seeder?

A bit like me this one, a prickly character :heehee: - about 12ft tall if it helps?

And lastly, this pretty wee thing?

Depends on your point of view. Last time I gave up smoking it grew in what had been my outdoor ash tray, which I took as a sign (not sure what of).

But anyway, I'm 99% sure its just a wild geranium. It self seeds like mad so maybe some people call it a weed, but I like it so leave it be, and now I have loads of the stuff in my garden.

So, if you don't mind it growing where it likes, good. If you take umbrage at flowers that do all the work for you, including sowing themselves, often where little else will grow, then evil.

          2. Agree with Zigs, Herb Robert

          3. Euonymus fortunei 'Silver Queen'.

4.Berberis. Not sure which one, could be 'amstelveen'.

          5. Looks like Oxalis incarnata.

Euonymus looks right; the last one is not gorse, as its not got the right leaves; I think @Trunky has got it spot on with berberis as a quick google looks about right.

The cornflower, that has got me confused. A quick look at Google looks about right in terms of the flower head, but the leaves etc are more tulip like? It had a distinctly 'grown from bulb-like' look about it?

Downright evil and totally invasive (think gutters, paving slabs, any pots, walls, forks in trees if the bark is old and cracked. Basically, anywhere the seed lands it'll try to grow).

The Cornflower is Centaurea montana, the really gardenworthy species IMO. It does self seed quite freely and is fully hardy.

Ah Googling that one looks bang on! Well done all :)

Just the rose to work out, although that is probably impossible without a flower?

Most of these are under threat of removal, with the exception of the euonymus, which might be just the ticket to propagate and fill a gap next to its current location (creating a sort of hedge, almost)

                      1. Possibly a climbing rose but I'm thinking more of a Dog Rose. It can be moved. :)

                      2. Don't know the name but yes it's evil! Self seeds everywhere and runs riot, I've been digging it out for years.

                      5. Definitely not Gorse, it doesn't have leaves just lethal thorns! Pyracantha perhaps.

                      6. Shamrock, another one that self seeds and runs riot, it's also Round-up resistant and keeps coming back!
