Im building a fence for the bottom of my garden that backs of the some bushes , i'm using the lollipop stick design with 1" gaps between each Lollipop .
My neighbours have done their back fence and i have noticed over the weeks that the bushes and trees have started to grow back through the gaps in their fence , this looks unsightly and a job to keep on top of .
The idea i had in mind was to staple gun some sort of membrane on to the back of my fence to stop stuff growing back through the gaps , is this something that can be done ?
Ive treated the area with 2 servings of Wedol so im hoping that should limit what will grow back there once the fence is erected .
I'm sorry i don't know the names of the bushes / trees , i'm new to gardening !

Most Garden Centres have a selection weed supressing membranes for use on flower beds and in poly tunnels which can be used as a backing for a fence, they are usually black.

Wouldn't it be better to have a closed fence with no gaps? I think the membranes work best if they are covered in mulch of some sort.

I thought about closing the gaps , but i feel that the wind might take it down . Ithought with teh gaps that the air can flow through a bit

When the membrane starts to perish it will not only look an eyesore but will be difficult to remove.
