somebody is eating the daffodils

    and it's not Gerald (old sketch for the youngsters!)

    some of my daffs have been nibbled - birds or slugs?

    Do you mean nibbled or have the heads been taken off? Daffodils are poisonous and there is very little in the way of animal life that will touch them. However, I have known pheasants to take the heads clean off.

    True, without doubt. There was a case of a school kid a few years ago that ended up in hospital after mistakenly preparing a daff bulb instead of an onion or something.

    However, the trumpet part is edible (in moderation). One of my uncles had a party trick in the 1980s where he'd eat the daff trumpets and he is still not dead all these years later. I stupidly tried to copy his trick as a kid. I ate several trumpets over time, with no ill effect. Then I got complacent, and ate the stamen and some other parts. I was so sick.

    the flowers, part or whole, and just a few. we are visited by a pheasant, but I had similar problem some years ago in a town garden.

    I think it's birds then TOR. But I'm not sure what the attraction is, probably the colour. :)
