Sometimes I don't understand gardening!!!

So it's just about to become September.
You saw my potatoes and my runner beans are going into overdrive but ...

My peas died without producing so much as a widdle and there were barely enough broad beans for one small serving. My rhubarb produces one stalk at a time and the second doesn't appear until the first one has died and my clematises (?plural for clem.) have bit the dust!

There's nothing logical in gardening, is there!

Yes Fran, almost as addictive as Gardeners Corner! :D

 

Its like my patch. Through years of neglect the one thing that always managed to look good was a crocosmia. Beautiful arching green leaves and more flowers than I could squeeze past with my bin bag!

Now I have actually started to get involved in the garden with planting, weeding, feeding etc. the crocosmia looks pants!
The leaves are brown and nibbled to pieces, and the flowers are more like stumps.

Guess where I'm heading with the spade next!

Let's get positive - what has done really well in your garden??????

 

The slugs and snails!!! They are huge and very healthy, unlike most of my plants...short of picking them all up and throwing them next door ( don't worry, my mum would just throw them back again ) I don't know what to do.

Michaelmas daisy I just love your little animators - dunno where you get them but they are fabulous.

Wineandchoc I'm with you on this one, I will ignore the fact that my ground elder is looking really healthy and couch grass is coming back in the bed I cleared, and relish the fact that this year has been a great year for roses.My newly acquired salvia turkistana blew my mind and thrushes are nesting in my garden, and hedgehogs are visiting again. Sucks to you slugs and snails :D As for short flowering crocosmia, where's my plant catalogue :D

 

My garden still looks a picture,the 30 geranium plugs �£3 from B/Q in April have flowered non stop even the caterpillars tried thier hardest to finish them of to no avail all in big tubs mixed colours and they certainly were, I pulled out the crocomosa that was sulking still think Monbrecia was better always got lotsa flowers on them and the packet of Gladioli 99p from lidls are still flowering I sure know what I shall stick to next year.... :D

My rhubarb, loads of it, all big nice thick stocks and when I pick them they grow in again just as thick. i,ve got a big bag of the rhubard in my freezer for jam.

 

Being a complete newbie, I was amazed Passion Flowers could grow in this country, let alone my patch!



They even have 'fruit' on them, I know I cant eat it from this variety, are they any good for seeds?
