Just been to help out a neighbour and cut his grass for him as he's been ill and got a cuppa and biscuits for my trouble and a leaf vacuum!

Anyway, on his conservatory table he has this pot plant, one he brought back from SA when the "white's were thrown out" as it were. His wife was the gardener and the neither of us know what it is, though it reminds me of a Rose of China in form and habit as the flowers last just the one day before being replaced by fresh.

He admits to have nearly let it die last year but it's flowering now, so anyone any idea what it is please and perhaps a guide to care?

Yes, I agree with stu ... it's a Hibiscus rosa-sinensis, which is an evergreen and not hardy in the UK. The one you see more often in the UK is the Hibiscus syriacus which is hardy and deciduous. I have many varieties of the H rosa-sinensis in my garden.

Many thanks to you both! I'll let him know what it is.

I have two which have just about survived in my kitchen this winter. But they don't look happy.
