sowing beetroot

    When would the earliest time to sow Beetroot be.

    Hi- boygardener last year i sowed 'boltardy' beetroot in the greenhouse on march 17th and then planted them out on April 22nd they done really well thankfully there was no frost and they were ready from early July

    Hi Boygardener, the earliest that you can sow Beetroot does depend on the weather a bit, generally the 1st week in March is the earliest, if you can place a cloche over the soil where you intend to sow them this will help warm the soil giving you a better germination, regards Steve.

    Now - in groups of three in modules, transplant to cold greenhouse in pots in March. You'll have baby beet in May. Some people say they eat baby beetroot all year round using this method, but I don't sow from October - mid January. Choose a baby beet variety like Pronto.

    Main sowings as per other posts, from mid- March under cloches, then little and often until September.
