I sowed my first carrots today and was amazed at how easy it was.

I actually made up a number of seed tapes a couple of months ago, after seeing them being made on Youtube.

It was pretty easy, using lengths of cheap toilet paper, made into single ply paper.

Cut strips 1/2 the width of the toilet paper (easy if folded up first).
Fold the strip into two, then open up
Make up glue (equal parts flour and water)
Dab blobs of glue at 2 inch spacing along centre of one side, dropping a seed on each blob
Fold other half over and pres down, trapping glue and seed between the two layers.
Carry carefully to greenhouse or somewhere warm to dry.
When finished, roll around an old toilet roll inner and pop in a plastic bag

I even put a few radish seeds on the tape ... they'll be up early and will mark the row

Go on !!!! try it yourself

With carrots you want to avoid thinning the seedlings, so this is ideal.

That sounds an excellent idea for fine seeds.

Sorry to hi-jack, but I could do with advice on carrots - I am about to sow some, and I am wondering what they will grow best in, either MPC on its own, MPC + vermiculite, or MPC + sharp sand mix?
