I don't know much about spam texts

But I now think I have had one.
It was worded with my name and asked how I was , I thought it was from a friend that I am arranging a visit, then went on to say John was writing his cards..

Problem is I had already answered the text before I realised it could be spam,

    This is the number+447710611148

I didn't give any info out but they already had my shortened name and must have had my email .

    Have I dropped a clanger ..?

@Purple Streaks I think my answer must have been tidied up at some point this morning.
Why do you think they have your email address as for texts you only need the phone number.
07710611148 is the number of a Glasgow Nail Bar.
It would be a strange spammer who sent a message like that. I think it is more likely to have been accidental and some body got the number wrong. Perhaps your shortened name is relatively common. I don't suppose you included your address or other personal details in your reply as you thought you were replying to a friend.
So no I don't think you have dropped a clanger, delete the message, block the number if you like.
Enjoy the visit with your friend.

@NigelJ, you travel all the way to Glasgow to get your nails done? :yikes:

Agree, it must have been a mistake. Scams usually involve quick or slow ways to get money or personal details, often by asking to click a link or to call a number.

I have had a few from "NHS" and some regarding "parcel deliveries". I never click any links even if the message sounds reliable. Anyone who wants me to take action can call, send a letter or an email- it gives more time to think if this is real or a scam.

Same as me I also tend to block the number it came from.

I agree, unlikely to be a scam. Only if they sent links and you clicked on them would there be a problem.
