In January 2007 I brought back a 3" cutting from Spain - 14 mths later it is 3 ft tall by 3ft spread [IMG] [IMG] and flowering profusely - but hte problem is I do not know what it is?
The flowers are like a salvia flower but the size of the plant and the leaves ( up tp 11" long) do not match anything I can find in any books.
    Can anyone help please?

Malc, I can see where your pictures are - C://2008_0403plant0003/ but you can't do it that way. Pictures are not stored in GC or other forums, only links to pictures.

You have to open an account (its free) with a picture storage place on the internet then link to there . Have a look here for instructions http://www.gardenerscorner.co.uk/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=31;t=000174 it looks a bit complicated at first, but its really very easy once you have done the first one.

Also if you use the 'Preview Post' button you can see if it has worked - you don't have to post it.

Well done Malcolm - that was the easy bit! - identifying it could be more difficult.

I have no idea. It certainly looks like the Mint ie Lamiaceae (formerly Labiateae) family. But it is not quite saying Salvia to me - though there are 900 Salvia species!

i am sure it's not that - I have looked in my RHS "bible" this is far too big - does not have the sames kind of root system and the flowers are interspersed with small leaves - the flowers are definitely very similar but my leaves are very smooth with smooth edges. I have contacted a Salvia expert - Robinssalvias.com - and he thinks the leaves and flowers are much too big for a Salvia.

I've been trying to ID it but no idea so far, was it taken from a garden or growing wild?

It was taken from a garden in Sevilla, Spain - I am sure it is a very special plant - as it had a prominent position from what I can recall - I had a problem with marbling effect on the leaves at first so have stopped feeding with phostrogen aand it has all but cleared up - gave it some magnesium instead - may repot in different compost next time - the rate it is growing that will be very soon!!

I have been looking at Salvia flowers in detail and they all seem to have 2 lobes to the bottom petal - mine actully has 3 - 2 smaller ones to each side of a bigger one - hope this helps!
