My Nigra bamboo is constantly full of sparrows.

Did not bother me until I noticed they are plucking all the new growth from the tips of the canes.

    Do scarecrows work on sparrows?

    Any tips?

    Thanks

I would let them be! Bamboo is very robust.

I love sparrows.....they have thrived over past couple of years :)
I think Redwing is right....bamboo won’t be bothered by them. Enjoy the sparrows K78:)

If possible, let them be. They could actually be eating greenflies or something like that. Sparrows attacked my dwarf Buddleyia in the early summer, niftly sweeping the tops clean of growth and whatever there was- I let it be and it's fine now.

Sparrows are great fun in the garden, free entertainment especially when the chicks are young. :)

If the damage to the bamboo is more than you can take, hang a feeder near by. Easy seeds could be more attractive than the plants. Or, if you think the sparrows are stripping nesting material, you could perhaps provide something similar. "Used" bedding hay from our Degus' cage is a great hit among birds here.

I'd be more inclined to think they were eating aphids mainly.

I agree with everyone else, normally a food or nesting material thing, probably not any help to you but sparrows are on the rspb red list (red is the highest conservation priority, with species needing urgent action.)
So you and your bamboo are doing a great job, just hope they don't do much damage.
