Hi Do you have a favourite plant or one that is special for some reason i.e. a place , a person or an event in your life or happy memories from somewhere you've been?
Will have to think about this one myself .Cheers

I always love one till I find another - call me just fickle.

today it was agastanche, it just behaves itself, but when I came to dead head it the smell of menthal was very evocative.

Mrs shiney has two myrtles in pots that belonged to her aunt who died over twenty years ago.

I'll have to think a bit about your question Gogs - it's a good one.

Really hard to choose a favourite. But I am getting a plant for each of the kids that includes their names, funny, the plants chosen have attributes of the child - not intentional, just happened to be so. Got the girls already, just the boys to find. Anybody know of a plant with 'Little Swine' in the name? [IMG] :D :D

What an interesting idea WM! I am mulling it over but so far have only come up with the name of Philodendron for my second grandson, Phil. Who can think of something for Louis and Colin? The larger of my two philodendrons lives out in the Wintergarten and I chop it back every year or two as it tends to get sprawly. For quite some years now it has bloomed, one year we actually had 14 blooms on it!!! But I can't say that I have a favourite.

When i was 15 we moved into our new house in Devon after moving from Basingstoke, and mum was doing the garden.

I wasnt interested at all in the garden in honesty, as i was very ill in a non-sneezy style if you get my drift. It was a very difficult time of my life, and mum wanted me to have something special in the garden, so she made to go to the garden centre with her.

She told me to pick whatever i wanted, so we could watch it grow. When i asked why i should want to watch something as insignificant as a plant grow, she replied 'so something beautiful can strengthen for you at the same rate someone strengthens for me'.

I got a beautiful light yellow pearly rose. Of course i didnt entirely get what she meant when she replied, i was after all to busy feeling sorry for myself and it an amount of pain.

I remember one day coming out and finding this gorgeous huge bloom on it. It made me smile, i hadnt said anything, but mum gave me a wink and a cuddle.

I didnt smile much when i was 15. [IMG]

Must get a picture of that rose, i love it now, and want to get one for myself to remind me of my mum.

This is a lovely idea Gogs [IMG]

Whiley, your story brought a tear to my eye - go get that rose ;)

I dont think I have a favourite yet but my Nan had a very old fashioned garden filled with such things as Lily of the Valley, Marigolds, wallflowers etc - they are firm faves of mine because she was a very special lady and, unfortunately, I didnt realise that till after she was gone :( I remember topping and tailing gooseberries with her and trimming the edge of her lawn with old scissors cos I couldnt manage anything bigger [IMG]

Roses always take my breath away with their beauty.....no, I really dont think I have a favoutite yet [IMG]

Night scented stock brings back memories of my childhood when we seem to have spent all summer in shorts and sandles, and swimming in the river each and every day, and eating hazel nuts on the way home for tea [IMG]

No one favourite for me - I like so many depending on the season, whether it be tree shrub or plant. Laburnum reminds me of my childhood, when we had a tree that dripped racemes of yellow.

    Mona Lisa, :D :D :D
Couldn't really give him a weed could I? Although he eats like one :D :D His nicknames Tiger, so I was thinking something along those lines; Tiger Lily? Tigridia? Have found it quite easy as my kids all have unusual names, can't think of anything for Colin though Kedi-Gato, but there's bound to be a rose I'd have thought.

Thanks for trying to find something to go with Louis and Colin, not easy names to match something up with. Perhaps something with pop up unexpectedly. I am still quite taken with the idea Gogs, and I agree with you on the daffodils and lambs.
