For some strange reason my spell check in MS Outlook Express insists on using a french dictionary (merde!). I've used Express for several years on many PCs but this is the first time (a new PC) this has happened. I know that Outlook Express is supposed to use the default dictionaries in MS Word. In my case I'm running MS Office 2007 and Word is set to use the english UK (default) and english USA and greek dictionaries. When I try to set the dictionary option in Outlook Express the only option presented is the french dictionary.

Anyone any ideas as to how I can resolve this?

Hi Dave, I never use the spell check but after reading your posting I tried it and also got a French dictionary with no option to change it - puzzling

Thanks Shiney. I wonder if anyone else has discovered the same fault.

I think I've found the answer. MS Office 2007 dictionaries/spell checking does not work with Outlook Express 6.

This is what the Microsoft web site says -

"...If you install the 2007 Microsoft Office system, you no longer have spell checking capabilities in some languages when you use Outlook Express 6.0.
    MORE INFORMATION
When you upgrade an earlier version of Office to a 2007 Office system, the old spelling checker files are removed for the following languages:
     English
     Spanish
     German
These files are replaced with newer versions that are included in the 2007 Office system. The new files are incompatible with Outlook Express...."

Now isn't that really nice of Microsoft!!!
