Now that I've finally got a few via GC, not having seen them since the 70's, everywhere has them - even B+Q!

News to report is that all the plants are doing well, and are sending off runners (if that's what you call them when they're in the air!)

Did anyone else have them way back when? And did anyone else have them in macrame pot hangers, or is that purely my imagination? Hope not! :D

Yeah, everone grew them, you couldn't kill em.
Tried growing one outside in the summer, total diaster, they really like the dark dry house interiors. [IMG]

I have one that is still going strong for the last 25 years.
I keep threatning to throw it out, but guilt over takes me as I lift the lid of the compost bin,so back to the greenhouse it goes.It even has a name "Spider"
I dare not take it into the house, because I seem to be the only one round here who has got one, and it isn't cool to be differant!!

Nope never owned one of those macrame pot hangers, but I did own some "Hot Pants"
Now I am showing my age.

There seems to be some new chlorophytum species/cultivars turning up in GCs recently which I have never seen before and don't look like spiders.
Haven't you got rid of those Macrame baskets yet Den? :D :D

Oh no! Have I become fashionable? I must confess I have a spider plant. It sits next to the P.C, is pot-bound, never watered and the cats chew at it. It must be 8yrs old and was a Mother's Day prezzy off my eldest. I know they're common but for sheer resilience they're hard to beat.
As for macrame pot-hangers, another confession - I used to make them!! Now were's my kaftan? Think I'll put a bit of Demis Roussos on the stereogram and cook up a fondue :D :D

Although they got a bit much one year, as I can't bear to cull the 'babies' I potted them up and sold them for our animal rescue!

I have even planted some of the babies out in the garden to add another bit of something to it.
I know the colour is only green and white, but they still look nice in their own way.

I don't bother bringing them back indoors before winter, because there are more ready for the next years planting, when the time comes.

Another plant I used to have in the macrame pot hangers was Tradescantia- green and white, purple and green, and tricolor. Haven't seen them for a while either.

Hi Liz.I used to have Tradescantias years ago, but got bored with them trailing all over the place.
I think they may have gone out of fashion come to think of it as I haven't seen them about for years,a bit like Swiss Cheese Plants, once all the rage, now seldom seen
