Sorry, not the best of shots as it was quite windy. I revealed this spider protecting it's giant 'egg' when cutting a hedge today. The web was the shape and size of a golf ball.

Looks a bit like the Manx funnel web.
Only kills about people per year on average,:snork:

Could it be a wolf spider?
        I've seen these around.

        Oh, good shot Sheal:blue thumb:

            Thanks all. :)

I don't think so @pete! :heehee: My son travelled Australia with a funnel web in his car that made an appearance from behind the dashboard every so often. He didn't attempt to kill it thinking that as long as they respected each others presence then it wouldn't be a problem! :yikes:

I've had a look on the web (excuse the pun ) and it seems to be a Nursery Web Spider, apparently a very good hunter but doesn't build webs to catch prey, only to rear it's young. :)

Aww, the beauty of spiders! Guess I am kinda weird for loving these "terrific" insects with all those legs, rather than cute little bunnies and puppies. :)

:yikes::yikes::yikes::yikes::yikes::yikes: I'd rather face a herd of stampeding Buffalo @Sheal but great photo. If I tried taking it the photo would have just been a blur (hands trembling and exiting stage left at speed ) as Spiders are at the bottom of my list of favourite things!

Thank you Woo and Silu. I'm not a lover of spiders either but a zoom lens is quite helpful in allowing me to keep a distance. :)

I was standing outside my House this morning talking to a neighbour when he said "excuse me", reached out and lifted a ball of tiny spiders from my hair:hate-shocked::heehee: We suddenly realised that we were both covered in them and had to "dust" them off until we were clear of them. We started to talk again only to find even more spiders appearing on us and we suddenly realised that the spider were floating in by the hundreds on the air and were coming from the 100 yard stretch of Conifers that line one side of our Grove.......must be that time of year for spiders!!
