Ah've jist come back fae ma holidays in Kernow, thats Cornwall tae yous non Celts, lovely place nice people
but why do they only offer chips when they have the most wonderful new tatties coming out of the ground right now?.
Anyway when I was away my spinach and rocket have shot. Can I just cut them down to the ground and let them sprout away again, or will I have to sow them again?.

It's very difficult to keep them under control once they start to flower. You can try and nip out the top growth and you might get a few smaller leaves, but then they will just develop even more flowers. You need to be starting again.

When I transplant my seedlings into their final growing position I sow more seed at the same time (in seperate pots), this gives about the correct timing to guarantee non stop spinach/rocket.

For the rocket, let some go to seed. Collect the seed and sow it for the next crop. You should never need to buy any more rocket seed. Not much point trying to pinch the tops out.
Don't know about spinach, but if it's like most other things, once it's going to seed that's it. Sow some more

    Hi stooriefit.

FWIW, cutting off the stem of leaf beet (sometimes called perpetual spinach) just above a few infant leaves seems to allow more growth. (about 4 - 6" above the ground.) I did this as an experiment about 1 month ago and the plants seem to have put on a spurt of growth. They've started bolting again, but with lots of leaves.

    Certainly worth a try.

I can't stop rocket growing........ leave some of the flowering heads to produce seed for next year.
Collect some seeds when the pods are dry, and maybe allow some to fall. You'll probably get a huge crop the next year.

    cheers,
    Dave
