    Advice please ....
One of my unusual conifers has split down the middle from the weight of snow
    Conifer height is about 12ft
Half is still upright and the other half has bent over almost touching the ground
I will get a photo asap
    Will it self heal?
If I were to prop the leaning half up and band it will it repair itself?
Chop it off and have half a tree?

    Thanks in advance

    :gaah:

It really depends on the type of conifer. Has the trunk split? A good photo will be good. A shot of the whole tree and a close one of where it has split will be good.

...sorry the piece of garden is a mess as building work going on next door (but i look forward to sorting this out when they have finished)
...on closer inspection i think i will not be able to save it ... looks like lopping it and having half a tree .....

I was going to say just strap it up tight with a bandage, but then I saw the photo. I'm not sure you'd get anything strong enough to hold it really secure.

I can't quite work out how much has split away (can see the split easy enough) but it does look as though it may be too heavy to bind it properly.

Do you think it would look OK (can't see it) if you cut off the top part of the broken part and left the rest long enough to bind to the tree, up as far as the clear part of the trunk? It seems to me that you may be able to cut of the biggest fork of the broken part - there appear to be three sections to it.

I don't think you'll be able to save it. When conifers are damaged they tend to die very quickly, so I'd remove the part that's collapsed and hope the rest heals, I don't see why it shouldn't, but of course it's not going to look very attractive.
