    Hi all,

I'm very new to gardening (as some of you may know from my previous clueless posts lol!) and recently made my first hanging basket.

I was checking on it this morning and spotted a snail on one of the begonia's leaves. Should I remove this uninvited little fellow, or is he harmless?

AAARGH. No Debzy. Fonzie is 200% right. The only good snail is a dead snail. Unless its eating a slug! Have no pity. They eat twice their weight EVERY day in your plants.

Oh no!! Thanks Fonzie & John. I will remove the cheeky little chap straight away!!

I always feel slightly guilty moving insects from where I find them, but I'm also very protective of my new blooms lol!

Before you chuck them over next time try dabbing them with a bit of paint. I read somewhere that they have quite a pronounced homing instinct. It might be interesting to see if you get them back.I am with Helen on this one. A good old fashioned organic pest control.

I can't squash them I'm afraid, I put them in the wheely bin but have to keep knocking them back down, or almost like daitheplant, I throw them onto the road/steet. :D

If Bob's about then the little critters are really lucky as he puts them in the bin too!

A general knowledge question for you all on the subject of snails. How many feet does a snail have? David.

Bob found a teeny tiny snail yesterday and said how cute the little guy was...sad to write the little guy met this maker the very same day, before he joined the big guys and started eating my hostas!

Yes Helen. They are very fond of hostas aren't they. I had several different ones at the beginning of this year. I now have one.

Helen, I just found one of those little guys while planting up a hanging basket for a friend. They are so cute! I couldn't bring myself to smush him so I just chucked him down the garden lol!

David - don't you like your neighbours?? ;)
