Spotted this the other day...

    I spotted this the other day but it completely mystified me:scratch: as I'd know idea what it was, there appears to be a couple of small clumps of them in the scrub in semi shade

    To me it looks very lily like but then not at the same time:hehe: the leaves have the same texture as a lilies anyway

    There are probably a few things that look like that at this stage, but I would hazard a guess at hemerocallis - Day Lilly.

    Well I'll let you know on there progress =] it's ever so strange as there growing on the top of a hill on the edge of a wood 0_o which is why I was so perplexed.

    PS:When do they flower? July/August?

    Whatever it is...it's a keeper!!! Lovely!

    I moved to a new house/garden 18 months ago and finding all kinds of weird and wonderful things popping up here and there.

    I would say they start a bit earlier than that - June to August perhaps

    you know these never flowered in the end... thought I'd have another look as someone pointed out to me the other day that just down the road was the first ever record of our native (arguable...) gladioli however looking at the picture again it looks far to fleshy:o

    however it is the perfect conditions for it - heath-lend on the edge of a woodland copse surrounded by bracken =]

    Aesculus - its always nice to have a follow up. But I am sorry it never flowered. It could be because it was its first year and will do better next year.

    I dare-say I will probably never find out as my mum no longer lives on the Isle of Wight anymore:o although
