I have my hyacinth bulbs, and tulips all at the ready ,I want to make 2 pots of hyacinth, and 2 of tulips and mini daffs for early spring colour.

When does everyone else start their spring tubs, and should I put the hyacinths in the dark shed or leave them to get on with it.

    Hi Pam

Because you are using pots I would plant up now, as you wont gain anything by leaving it plus the bulbs start to dry out which you don't want them to do .

I suppose like a lot of us on here we are waiting to pull out all the summer bedding before we can start planting , be it tubs pots or the open ground so I say earlier the better.

Are your hyacinths for xmas ??

Spruce ps I know the Pros say leave Tulips till December but who wants to be digging about when it could be very wet and cold !!!

Thanks for the info Spruce, yes it is desperation to get on with things making me think spring, the hyacinths will be outside in tubs, so every time I go out I get a waft of their gorgeous perfume, the earlier the better.:wub2: Thinking on that, may plant a pot for the house as I have loads of bulbs. i always try to get my tulips in by November, because as you say the weather could be miserable by December.:dunno:

The whiskey barrel outside my front door is the spring display I did have about 20 hyacinths around the edge of the barrel one year the flower stalks so heavy they dangled over the edge a occasional ;) gardening neighbour said she had never seen trailing hyacinths before :snork:

Hyacinths remind of when I was in Primary school , the corridors just full of the smell of them
