A restaurant owner gave me this lemon yesterday and asked if I had ever seen anything like it before ... which I haven't ...

He suggested I plant them to see what happens ... but how do I plant them?

Hi Victoria, I've cut open quite a few apples this year that have had growing pips in them; to the extent where the root has started to work its way in to the apple flesh itself; I teased a few out popped them in some compost and they were up within days, which is really good because if you sow a normal pip they can take weeks, sometimes months before they come up.

If you can manage to tease those 'growing' pips out of the lemon, just pot them up, cover them lightly, with the greeen pip almost on the surface and I wouldn't mind betting they'll be up in no time at all :thumb:

I've not actually seen it in lemons before but have heard it happens.

I think its a sign the lemon should have been picked a while ago.

      Thanks Bilbo, A and pete.

Bilbo, the problem we have is 1) no room to grow lemon trees and 2) a 1.5 meter tall lemon tree (already fruiting) costs us about €5 but t'other half said it would be fun to do as we had our avocado I did from a stone. Sadly after five/six years the avocado tree died and I never saw a fruit. :cry3:

Pete, our friend bought his lemons from Makro and by the looks of the the lemon it was 'past it' anyway ... :heehee:

Will probably have a go just for fun.

      Hey Victoria,

You'll need to graft a fruiting lemon onto the rootstock you grow, otherwise it could be 20 years before it flowers, if it ever does at all.
