    Over the past couple of weeks or so, my sprouts lower leaves have been yellowing; I am presuming that this is just them having done their bit and leaving the business end to the top growth, but should I be removing them to allow air to flow? And do any leaves grow from there, or is it purely a case of top growth on a thickish stem?

    Hiya F/C.

    Yellowing from the bottom is quite normal, but it sounds a little early? Are they making good growth? As the season goes on, more will go yellow and should be removed as they're of no use. It's from the leaf joints that the sprouts will emerge. I imagine if you look closely you will be able to see them forming already? Hope this helps.

    Cheers...Freddy

      Best thing to do is to grub them out, put them through the shredder and use the resulting compost to grow some real food :)

      They seem to be sturdy enough, and have plenty of healthy growth so far. I gave them a good dose of food this evening, so maybe that will help things along a bit; I was wondering if the heat was maybe partly to blame, as they are in a really sheltered spot that gets full sun.

      Harsh :nonofinger::whistle::biggrin:

      Besides - when grown they will accompany some 'real food' - - chicken, turkey or beef most likely :sofa:

          Agreed

          Nitrogen rich? Brassicas like that - and should help keep them green. No harm watering them if you haven't had rain for a while.
